Ticks

Identify, control, prevent

-> Identify: Send the tick you want to identify to etick.ca, a free internet-based tick identification service. You can send pictures of a tick that has been extracted from you or your pet. A specialist will check the tick in about 24 hours. Then, they will email the results and some health tips. Ticks are blood-sucking, tiny brown creatures of the arachnid group that attach to skin.

-> Control: Also, eliminate ticks using fine-pointed tweezers as soon as you notice them. Wash the site using antiseptic. See medical help in case of symptoms.

-> Prevent:

  • Wear long trousers and sleeves in wooded areas.
  • Use insect repellent with DEET.
  • Check your body after outdoor activities.
  • Keep grass short and remove leaves.
